$2.3 billion has been invested into AR / VR startups in the last twelve months, according to a new report from Digi-Capital. In Q3 2016 alone half a billion in AR / VR was made.
Investment by VC and corporate investors predominate, accounting for 86% of investment in AR / VR startups. Some of the biggest VC names investing in AR /VR included Kleiner Perkins, Fidelity and Intel Capital. These were joined by corporates included Amazon and New Corp.
The average investment made by VC’s and corporate investors was $9.3 million in Q3 This number jumps to $16.4 million once seed deals are removed.
If we remove the large investment made into Magic Leap in 2014 then the overall growth trend in AR / VR has been trending up for more than two years. Strong interest in AR / VR startups by both corporates and VCs suggest that this trend is unlikely to stop anytime soon.
